Lesson 6 of 8

The 10-minute weekly budget review

Use a short weekly check to correct the plan before small differences become end-of-month problems.

Your goalComplete a repeatable weekly review in ten minutes.

Review on a schedule

Choose the same day each week. A planned review is calmer and more useful than checking only after a stressful purchase.

Ask four questions

The review does not need a large report.

  • Is the transaction record complete enough?
  • Which category changed most?
  • What bills arrive before the next review?
  • What one adjustment would help?

Move money without shame

If reality changed, update the plan. Moving money from one category to another is budgeting, not failure.
